Excellent story from an author who is also a great storyteller. It’s artfully descriptive, and written by someone who is clearly, and perhaps exceptionally, knowledgeable about Igbo culture and tradition. The vivid settings that are created by the writer’s skill and obvious comfort with his subject allow the reader to become immersed in it as if present as a spectator of the events – and literally feel the Hot Rain.
I enjoyed learning many things from its pages and imagery, and I appreciate this especially as a different, more intimate way to learn about a new and interesting culture. It’s definitely a valuable work with historical perspective that functions to preserve awareness of tradition in a way that is accessible for everyone.
